QR Code Generator
Create high-resolution, standards-compliant QR codes in PNG, SVG, or WebP. Customize colors, margins, error correction levels, and dot styling. Supports single codes, contact cards, Wi-Fi connections, calendar events, and bulk CSV generation with instant ZIP download.
What is the QR Code Generator?
This tool encodes text, links, contact vCards, or Wi-Fi credentials into an ISO/IEC 18004 standards-compliant 2D matrix barcode entirely inside your browser.
Matrix Encoding and Reed-Solomon Error Correction
A Quick Response (QR) code is a two-dimensional symbology defined by ISO/IEC 18004. Data is packed into modules (black and white squares) arranged in a grid. Three prominent square finder patterns in the corners allow barcode readers to determine the position, size, and angle of inclination. The underlying engine adds Reed-Solomon error correction codewords, which allow the code to remain readable even if parts of it are obscured, smudged, or torn.
How to Use the QR Code Generator
Select Your Payload
Choose what you want to encode: a website URL, Wi-Fi credentials, business vCard, email, phone number, or text note.
Enter Your Content
Fill in the required fields. For Wi-Fi, enter your exact network name (SSID), password, and encryption type (WPA/WPA2/WPA3 or Open).
Adjust Appearance & Error Correction
Choose foreground and background colors ensuring strong contrast. Select Error Correction Level (M for standard links, H if you plan to print on curved surfaces or add graphics).
Check Scannability & Download
Review the live scannability indicator and contrast score, then download in your preferred format (SVG for print, PNG for screens).
Key Settings & Parameters
| Setting | What It Controls | Recommended Default |
|---|---|---|
| Error Correction Level | Controls damage tolerance. Use Level M (15%) for general links; use Level H (30%) if you intend to print on physical goods prone to scratches or overlay a graphic. | Level M for links, Level H for physical merchandise |
| Margin (Quiet Zone) | The blank border around the code. Setting this below 2 modules often causes mobile cameras to fail decoding. | 3 to 4 modules |
| Color Contrast | The foreground modules must be distinctly darker than the background. Inverting colors (light code on dark ground) breaks scanning on many native camera apps. | Dark navy/black on pure white |
Common Pitfalls to Avoid
-
• Inverting foreground and background colorsAlways ensure the QR modules are darker than the background. Many older scanner apps only recognize dark-on-light.
-
• Encoding excessively long tracking URLsLong URLs create dense matrices with tiny modules that are hard to scan from a distance. Clean tracking parameters or shorten URLs before generating.
-
• Cropping off the quiet zoneLeave at least a 3-4 module white border around the QR code when placing it into graphic designs.
Pro Tips for Best Results
- For billboards or posters, ensure the printed QR code is at least 1/10th the distance of the expected scanning range (e.g. 10 cm wide for a 1 meter scan distance).
- Download SVG for any vector editing software (Illustrator, Figma) to guarantee infinite resolution without pixelation.
Local Processing Guarantee
Zero remote transmission. All encoding runs locally; sensitive Wi-Fi keys and vCards never leave your computer.
When to Use
- Sharing Wi-Fi credentials with guests without revealing passwords aloud.
- Adding contact vCards to physical business cards and conference badges.
- Linking printed restaurant menus, packaging, posters, and flyers to digital landing pages.
- Batch generating product labels and inventory tags from CSV files.
Encoding large binary files or multi-page documents directly into the matrix. The practical maximum is ~3KB; for larger content, host the file and encode its direct URL.
- • Standard QR codes can store up to 7,089 numeric characters or 2,953 alphanumeric characters. Complex content produces dense matrices requiring high-resolution printing.
